I was born and raised in a small Métis community in Fort Vermilion Alberta close to NWT Border. My Dad and Mom raised a family of 19 with lots of love, laughter and good values. There was always music and dancing in this house with plenty of competitors. Now I am concerned that this Traditional Dancing is in jeopardy and needs to be revived.So.with your guidance and enthusiasm we will fulfill my dream.
My Journey From 1996 – 2020
I moved to BC in 1977 and resided in Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd and Prince George. Basically Metis Bev has traveled many miles to get here! I currently live in the Surrey BC but Culture has no borders so my Metis Trail goes where ever I am needed to inspire our people
When I lived in Prince George BC, 1996 I attended a Dance and gave a Demonstration of “The Red River Jig“. The local Métis asked for my assistance in teaching the Red River Jig to Community and my journey started from that day on:
Over the next 12 months or so I volunteered to teach (The Nechako Fraser Junction). At the first performance the whole community was so enthusiastic and proud of them I knew in my heart “This was my destiny” to instill pride in our youth and keep our culture alive.
I volunteered many hours and nights to different organizations in BC. I have instructed Cultural classes in many Schools Districts across Canada,Family Services,Youth Camps,Women & Elders Healing Conferences, Provincial Federal Government,Olympic Pavilion, Aboriginal Achievements Awards,Every year, I trained Groups to perform at Aboriginal Day Celebrations.
I have lived the Metis way of life.Good ole rabbit stew and bannock.Music and dancing has always been part of my life and fiddling and jigging in my soul.I have developed my own unique traditional way of teaching with plenty of humour and fun for all ages.
“Doing the Metis jig is like dreaming with your feet ”
I have at least 8 different workshops to choose from. Please book early.
